Pepco customers can bring their concerns over a proposed rate hike directly to the state鈥檚 utility regulator in the coming weeks.

The Exelon subsidiary, which serves more than 600,000 customers in Montgomery and Prince George鈥檚 counties, is seeking state approval to increase the fees it charges to deliver electricity to homes and businesses.

The Maryland Public Service Commission announced Wednesday that it will hold virtual hearings on April 14 and 17 to provide people a chance to comment on the proposal.

Pepco representatives have said the company must bring in more revenue to pay for hundreds of repair and maintenance projects, such as upgrading substations and replacing underground cables, to prevent power disruptions.

If the Public Service Commission approves the proposal, customers would see an average increase of $11.73 in their monthly bills, likely beginning in August. The five-member commission must issue a decision by Aug. 10.

Brady Ebert, 33, of Silver Spring, was taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault, and a district court commissioner ordered him to be held without bond.

Turnstile 鈥渃ut ties鈥� with Ebert in 2022 due to 鈥渁 consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band and the community,鈥� the band said in a statement on Thursday. Between July 6 and Sept. 7, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will operate free shuttle buses for passengers at its Friendship Heights, Bethesda, Medical Center, Grosvenor-Strathmore and North Bethesda stations.

The Montgomery County Public Schools board is expected to decide on the future of Wootton 鈥� and several other campus boundary lines 鈥� at its March 26 meeting.

If the board approves听, students who expected to attend Wootton will instead go to a newly constructed campus in Gaithersburg, about three miles away.

Last September, local officials were talking about supporting small businesses as they celebrated the opening of the newest county-owned Oak Barrel & Vine liquor store 鈥� across the hall from Gardner鈥檚 shop.

Montgomery County Circuit Judge Rachel McGuckian said she did not give 56-year-old Rueda Landeros the maximum penalty for second-degree murder in this case, 30 years, because he had no criminal record.

She also called the killing a heinous act and said Rueda Landeros had exploited the victim鈥檚 trust.

The sentence will include the more than three years Rueda Landeros served before his trial, according to his defense attorney, who had asked for 12 years.

Megan Royden, president of the Howard County library union, said the support staffers were caught completely off guard by Monday鈥檚 decision.

鈥淲e are angry about this, we are sad about this and we are disgusted that this is a decision that management has chosen to take,鈥� Royden said in an interview.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown is suing the Department of Homeland Security to stop the transformation of a Williamsport warehouse into an immigration detention facility, citing environmental and public health concerns.

The Department of Homeland Security purchased an 825,000-square-foot facility in Williamsport and its 53.5-acre property for $102.4 million from a private entity last month. Public documents say the facility would include 鈥渉olding and processing spaces,鈥� cafeterias, offices and health care space.

The facility is one of dozens planned across the country as the Trump administration accelerates its deportation campaign.
