Amtrak launches onboard magazine

WASHINGTON 鈥 You鈥檒l find a little seat back reading material on your next Amtrak trip.

Amtrak has launched a new, onboard magazine called 鈥淭he National.鈥 The monthly publication is now available on all Amtrak trains and includes features on the personalities, culture and destinations along Amtrak鈥檚 routes.

While the northeast corridor between D.C. and Boston is, by far, the carrier鈥檚 busiest route, Amtrak has more than 500 destinations in 46 states.

Amtrak hired New York-based publisher Ink to produce its onboard magazine. Ink specializes in travel-related publications, and its magazines include American Airlines鈥 鈥淎merican Way鈥 in-flight magazine.

The inaugural issue of 鈥淭he National鈥 includes a feature on the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in D.C.

鈥溾橳he National鈥 is an inspired publication that celebrates American culture,鈥 said Jordan Heller, 鈥淭he National鈥檚鈥 editor-in-chief. 鈥淩ailways are integral to shaping our national identity and 鈥楢merica鈥檚 Railroad鈥 is the perfect platform for a contemporary magazine.鈥

Regular features will include 鈥淩ail Life鈥 vignettes featuring people, places and experiences across the country; 鈥淢ade in America鈥 profiles featuring American companies; 鈥淭he National Conversation鈥 called a Pop Culture Q&A; 鈥淣ext Stop,鈥 in-depth features on American culture and history; and 鈥淧hotography Highlight,鈥 with picture-driven documentaries of Amtrak train travel.

The magazine is free.
