Judge upholds Baltimore’s dining ban amid pushback

BALTIMORE 鈥 A judge in Baltimore has ruled to uphold the city鈥檚 dining ban.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Lawrence Fletcher-Hill said Thursday that restaurants have faced 鈥渋rreparable harm” but the issue was a 鈥渕atter of life and death.鈥

He made those remarks after denying a request by the Restaurant Association of Maryland that sought to reopen indoor and outdoor dining.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott praised the ruling. He said it was 鈥渇undamentally about the health and safety of Baltimoreans.鈥

The trade group’s president said they are 鈥渄isappointed in the judge鈥檚 ruling.鈥

Judges in Montgomery and Prince George鈥檚 counties also have denied requests by the group to restore indoor dining.
