Local transit service reduced for Thanksgiving holiday

WASHINGTON — If you鈥檙e trying to ditch your car on Thanksgiving, Metro and other local transit systems will operate on a Sunday schedule.

There will be no track work on Metrorail, which is open Thursday from 7 a.m. to midnight.

MetroAccess subscription trips are cancelled, and parking is free at all Metro station garages.

Metro treats Black Friday like a regular weekday; fares and parking fees return to normal. All trains will have six cars since Metro expects fewer riders than a regular weekday.

Many of the region鈥檚 bus and commuter bus systems will operate on a reduced holiday weekday service on Friday. Be sure to check the schedules.

While there are no MARC or VRE trains on Thanksgiving, on Friday, MARC and VRE will run on 鈥淪鈥 schedules, which means that only the trains marked with an “S” will run.

Also on Friday, some places, such as聽Alexandria, Virginia, have free parking at meters for Black Friday, but you’ll have to pay in other spots.
