WASHINGTON —聽The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the perpetrator in the hit and run 聽fatality of a 56-year-old Lanham woman who was walking on the street Friday in Southeast Washington.

Police say the woman, identified as Emebet Kebede, was struck by a newer model black Chevrolet Tahoe at approximately 6:10 p.m. Friday on the 1300 block of Southern Avenue, SE. 聽She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to , Kebede worked as聽a physician鈥檚 assistant at the United Medical Center, which is located in the block where she was killed.

The crash remains under investigation. The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information about this case to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department鈥檚 TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
