WASHINGTON —聽Now that聽the聽95 Express Lanes are our new reality,聽here’s one free feature聽you might not know about.聽聽It’s an emergency road service聽called “Express Assist.”聽 It’s聽also available聽on the 495-Express Lanes.
“Express Assist” says Mike McGurk, a spokesman with Transurban, is a free emergency assistance service.聽He says,聽“A lot of people don’t realize we monitor the entire road 27/7.”聽聽 He says they monitor聽both the 95 & 495 Express Lanes.
If they聽see you pulled over on the shoulder,聽they’ll dispatch an “Express Assist” vehicle to offer assistance.聽聽McGurk says, 鈥淭hey鈥檒l do basic mechanical things (like) fix a flat, jump start, give you a little bit of gas to get you聽on your way.”
The “Express Assist”聽service is free —聽 but if you need a tow truck that might聽cost聽you, and you might have to pay for the聽toll for that tow truck. 聽McGurk says you need to check with your insurance company about whether towing and tolls are covered.
He says聽while you’re waiting for that tow, they’ll help make sure you’re safe by placing聽a big warning light behind your car until help arrives.
