3 men in custody after vehicle crashes at Pentagon lot

WASHINGTON — Three men were taken into custody聽after their聽vehicle jumped a curb聽at a聽Pentagon parking lot Sunday morning, triggering a bomb squad and HAZMAT response.

Nothing dangerous was聽found and normal operations have since resumed at the scene, a Pentagon spokesman said.聽Metro’s聽Pentagon station was temporarily shut down due to the police activity but has since reopenend.

The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m.聽in the Pentagon’s south parking lot, near South Eads Street and South Rotary Road.聽That’s where police found three men — apparently passed out — inside an聽SUV.

Police at the scene deemed the SUV “potentially dangerous” because there were wires sticking out of one of the doors.聽A HAZMAT unit and two bomb squads were called in to inspect 聽the vehicle.

It was determined that the wires did not pose a threat and that the SUV did not have any hazardous materials, according to the Pentagon.

Police said that at one point, the men were asked to exit the vehicle, but they did not get out. But then, at around 8:45 a.m., the men tried to drive off, police allege.

They were stopped and taken into custody.

Police said the driver’s blood alcohol level was at .113, above the .08 legal limit for driving.

The incident is still under investigation.
