WASHINGTON — The Attorneys General of Maryland, Virginia and D.C. have agreed to a new level of cooperation to try to cut down on gun trafficking and drug crime.
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine met Friday in what they call a first-of-its kind attempt to tackle a region problem with a regional strategy.
鈥淕un violence 鈥� doesn鈥檛 recognize borders,鈥� Herring said. 鈥淭he Potomac River is no deterrent for bad actors in the region.鈥�
While the trio offered no immediate action, they say that increasing cooperation and communication is a very good way to start.
鈥淔irst and foremost, information sharing is critically important,鈥� said Racine, who shared one possible initiative that tops their list:聽Drafting a code of conduct that gun vendors would voluntarily abide by.
Frosh admitted there鈥檚 no guarantee that sharing information will yield immediate results, 鈥渂ut it can only help if they [D.C. and Virginia] know what鈥檚 going on in our state.鈥�
