WASHINGTON 鈥斅燩epco is urging聽customers to prepare for the possibility for more outages due to potentially damaging storms expected to arrive Thursday night.
The first of the round of thunderstorms are predicted to hit聽around midnight and continue into late Thursday morning, with heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.聽A second wave is predicted to roll through Thursday afternoon, bringing with it the possibility of a tornado.
In the meantime, Pepco is聽encouraging customers to have an emergency kit on hand with items such as a flashlight, battery-powered clock and radio, extra batteries, non-perishable food, bottled water and a list of important phone numbers.
Pepco did not specify in a聽news release 聽issued Wednesday聽where the potential outages could fall nor did Pepco聽provide details on which customers聽should prepare for outages, but the company did state that聽 16,000 of its customers were left without power following .
According to the news release,聽150 internal linemen, 250 contractors and 180 tree-trimming personnel will be standing by. The utility company also said it would call on other utility companies such as聽Baltimore Gas & Electric, for help if need be.
