WASHINGTON —聽Maryland State Police are investigating a聽single-vehicle crash that left a Maryland truck driver dead Sunday morning on Route 50, east of Annapolis.
Police say a tractor-trailer carrying聽Cloverland Dairy聽products was travelling east聽on Route 50 near Cape St. Claire聽when the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on top of the guardrail.
The truck driver, identified as聽George Marvel Fooks of Salisbury, Maryland,聽was pronounced dead at聽the scene.
It is unknown what caused the driver to lose control, but police say speed may聽have been a factor in the collision.
Police say the聽Maryland Department of the Environment personnel contained a small diesel fuel spill聽that occurred when the truck overturned.
All lanes of eastbound Route 50 and two westbound lanes聽remain closed and are聽expected to reopen within the next few hours.
Traffic is being diverted on the eastbound side down Buschs Frontage Road to Whitehall Road.
