Combat casualty training in Bethesda could get noisy, officials warn

WASHINGTON — A medical field training exercise planned by聽Naval Support Activity Bethesda this week may involve simulated sounds of gunfire and occasional yelling, a military spokesman said.

The exercise — combat casualty training for medical students — is scheduled for聽Tuesday and Wednesday, and for Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 in the woods and a pond near聽Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located at聽4301 Jones Bridge Road.

A spokesman for Naval Support Activity Bethesda said the simulated sounds are聽part of the realistic training and are no cause for alarm.

Walking trails near the pond will be closed during the exercise.

The advance notice comes as a result of a similar July 6 incident, in which sounds were interpreted as gunfire and resulted in response by law enforcement.
