Columbia Heights building collapse closes street

WASHINGTON – A building collapse in Columbia Heights shut down streets for several hours Tuesday evening and caused traffic hurdles for local residents.

The house, which is located in the 1000 block of Monroe Street, was unoccupied at the time. No one was injured.

Officials say damage sustained from the August earthquake coupled with recent rains likely caused the building to crumble.

Surrounding streets remain closed Wednesday morning. Officials do not know when they will reopen.
