O’Malley: Done with gambling measure if voters reject it

, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley says if voters reject gambling in Prince George’s County when they vote on the measure in November, he won’t seek to re-introduce the gaming legislation while he’s governor.

O’Malley says the prospect of table games at National Harbor would be dead until 2015, when a new governor is sworn in and takes office.

“Perhaps some future governor would want to wrestle with this issue again, ” O’Malley said on WTOP’s Ask The Governor program Monday.

“I would think it would be the end of it in this term, and we would be faced with some pretty big challenges in terms of the sort of mix of cuts or other measures in order to make up the dollars that we anticipate will be coming from the approval of Question 7, which when fully ramped up will be about $199 million.”
