WASHINGTON – Two National Transportation Safety Board officials spent several hours with Maryland officials Thursday including a drive over the Bay Bridge to see the spot where a car plunged into the waters below.
The federal investigators spent 2.5 hours meeting with officials from the Maryland Transportation Authority, which operates the bridge. In addition to driving on the bridge, the investigators also inspected the three vehicles involved in the July 19 wreck.
The is to determine if there are any nationwide safety issues the crash may expose.
Twenty-two-year-old Morgan Lake of Sunderland survived a 40-foot plunge off the bridge and she was rescued.
and Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski had called for a federal investigation into the bridge’s safety.
