Fire tears through Southeast D.C. home, hoarding conditions found

WASHINGTON – A fire ripped through a home where the owner was hoarding items in Southeast D.C. early Thursday morning.

The blaze occurred on M Street near Minnesota Avenue and the homeowner was able to escape unhurt, .

Investigators haven’t figured out what caused the fire but hoarding conditions were found inside the home. It is not yet clear if the hoarding conditions played a role in the fire.

The homeowner told NBC Washington that he woke up to the smell of smoke around 4 a.m. He then ran outside and banged on the doors of nearby homes for help.

Officials have not released information about the estimated cost of damage to the home.
