UCLA-Washington Preview Capsule

The Associated Press

No. 18 UCLA (7-2, 5-2 Pac-12) at Washington (6-3, 2-3), 7 p.m. ET (Fox Sports 1).

Line: UCLA by 4 1/2.

Series Record: UCLA leads 39-30-2.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

UCLA will eventually need help to win the Pac-12 South, though the Bruins hold the tiebreaker over Arizona and Arizona State and will have a chance to do so over Southern Cal. So a trip to Seattle — back home for UCLA coach Jim Mora — is not the time for a slip up/ Washington needs one more win to reach bowl eligibility and is 0-3 against ranked opponents so far this season.

KEY MATCHUP

UCLA QB Brett Hundley vs. Washington’s front-seven. When Hundley has been protected this season, he’s shown why NFL scouts like what they see. But when teams have been able to pressure Hundley, the Bruins offense can get out of sorts. Washington has one of the best pass rushes in the conference led by DE Hau’oli Kikaha.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

UCLA: LB/RB Myles Jack. Last season Jack had a huge night against the Huskies and let everyone know about it. Jack had four rushing touchdowns against the Huskies and was often seen gesturing toward the Washington sideline. This season, Jack’s impact has been less as a runner with more of a defensive focus. Jack had a season-high six carries last week against Arizona.

Washington: LB/RB Shaq Thompson. No one is quite sure if Thompson should still have linebacker next to his name with his performance as a running back the past two weeks. Thompson rushed for 174 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in Washington’s win at Colorado after running for 98 yards against Arizona State. He was moved to running back out of necessity but now is the Huskies most electric offensive player.

FACTS & FIGURES

UCLA has won four of the last five vs. Washington including 41-31 in Pasadena last season. … Washington QB Cyler Miles got his first significant playing time last season coming off bench against UCLA after an injury to starter Keith Price. Miles threw for 149 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. … This is first game for Mora as a coach against Washington in Seattle. Mora played for the Huskies in the early 1980s.
