Las Vegas Raiders’ Ashton Jeanty suffers apparent injury during practice

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — running back had to be helped off the field after apparently being injured late in Sunday’s practice and was unable to put pressure on his right leg.

The Raiders did not provide a statement on Jeanty’s status and there was no indication of when an update would come. Coach Klint Kubiak is not scheduled to speak with reporters until Tuesday.

Jeanty went down after trying to catch a pass, and his teammates at the club’s indoor practice facility quickly went quiet. The entire team then knelt and prayed.

out of Boise State last year, Jeanty had hoped to in which rushed for 975 yards despite playing behind what was statistically the NFL’s worst offensive line. His 1.6 yards per attempt before contact, according to Pro Football Reference, was third worst among backs with more than 100 carries.

Similar to other starters, the Raiders had tried to preserve Jeanty in preseason games, playing him briefly in the opener against Arizona. He rushed just three times for 16 yards and didn’t play .

Should Jeanty be out for any notable length of time, rookie Mike Washington Jr. likely would move to the top of the depth chart. He was drafted in the fourth round out of Arkansas and has had a promising training camp. Washington even at times has received practice snaps with the starting offense.

He has 15 carries for 119 yards this preseason.

The Raiders conclude their preseason schedule by hosting San Francisco on Thursday night.
