Postal Service to remove 50 mailboxes during Pope Francis’ visit

WASHINGTON 鈥 Next week鈥檚 visit by Pope Francis to D.C. will cause a lot of traffic delays and transit tie-ups, but the U.S. Postal Service has announced that they鈥檙e getting rid of 50 blue collection boxes for the duration of Francis鈥 stay.

The Postal Service says in a statement that the security measures in the downtown area 鈥渨ill restrict the ability of postal employees to collect and deliver mail. Therefore, the Postal Service will temporarily remove some blue collection boxes.鈥

They emphasize that everyone will still get their mail; there just won鈥檛 be as many places to drop it off. The boxes have been marked, they say, and will be replaced by Friday, Sept. 25.
