WASHINGTON —聽聽A Prince George’s County ambulance crew says they were聽assaulted by a teenager聽they were were trying to help early Sunday morning.聽
Prince George’s County Fire and EMS received a call聽around聽5:30 a.m. Sunday about聽a聽“sick person” in Langley Park. Family members let聽the EMT聽crew into the apartment in the聽8100 block of 15th Avenue, said Mark Brady, a spokesman with Prince George’s County Fire and EMS.
According to Brady, the family members of聽the聽boy thought聽he had too much to drink.
The ambulance crew went into the teenager bedroom聽to聽assess聽his medical condition聽when the teen grabbed聽one of the female medics by the uniform and punched her, the emergency responders allege.
The crew quickly left the apartment and called for聽police assistance. 聽Brady said the teen remained combative as police聽subdued him and聽handcuffed聽him.聽聽Another ambulance crew, with police on-board, took聽the teen to the hospital to be evaluated.
The female ambulance crew member was shaken up but remained on-duty, Brady said. 聽There is no word yet about whether聽charges will be filed against the teen.
These incidents against rescue crews are troubling, Brady聽said.
The assault聽happened聽weeks after the death of Prince George’s County firefighter and paramedic , who was shot along with his fellow firefighter Kevin Swain while checking on the welfare of a man.
“The fire and EMS聽department聽is very concerned,” Brady said. 聽“Our first priority is the safety of all of our members.”
