WASHINGTON 鈥� They say you shouldn鈥檛 rush into marriage, and one British couple has taken that advice to heart.
When George Kirby and Doreen Luckie get married in June, they鈥檒l have taken their time deciding to make the commitment: He鈥檒l be 103 on his wedding day; she鈥檚 91, and they鈥檝e been together 27 years, reports.
They鈥檝e been 鈥渓iving in sin鈥� in a hotel in Eastbourne owned by Kirby鈥檚 63-year-old son, and it was pressure from their elderly children that led George to ask Doreen on Valentine鈥檚 Day 鈥渋f she wanted to be married to me for a short time. 鈥�
“I didn’t get down on one knee,鈥� Kirby added, 鈥渂ecause I don’t think I would have been able to get back up.”
They got together in 1988, when Kirby, an RAF veteran, was 76 and had just been divorced and Luckie, who was a court typist, had been a widow for three years after 36 years of marriage. They鈥檝e been living together since 1990.
