Brookland affordable housing development scores a DC funding first

A residential development in Brookland designed to reach some of the Distrct鈥檚 lowest income residents just became the first project in the city to win cash from a new federal funding source targeted at affordable housing.

Mayor Muriel Bowser鈥檚 administration announced Wednesday that Lock7 Development鈥檚 project at 1736 Rhode Island Ave. NE is in line to receive $3.2 million through the National Housing Trust Fund. Bowser鈥檚 office says the development, dubbed 鈥淭he Rollins,鈥 is the first affordable housing project in the District to earn cash through program since it took effect in 2016.

鈥淲hile we continue to make historic affordable housing investments here in the District, we know we can鈥檛 address the growing housing crisis alone 鈥 the federal government also must step up,鈥 Bowser wrote in a statement. 鈥淲e appreciate the National Housing Trust Fund and urge Congress to expand federal programs that help our most vulnerable residents.鈥
