WASHINGTON 鈥 Washington Redskins President Bruce Allen says聽Robert Griffin III has been cleared to play Sunday after he passed his concussion protocol.
Allen joined WTOP Anchor Bruce Alan on the air Friday afternoon for their annual preseason chat. The two discussed the NFL season opener Thursday night, as well as the concussion issues surrounding Griffin for聽the upcoming season.
Allen told WTOP that Griffin is cleared to play for the 2015 season. He did not say whether Griffin would serve as the second- or third-string quarterback, only that Kirk Cousins will be the starter for the season.
鈥淭here won鈥檛 be another shoe to drop,鈥 Allen said. 鈥淐oach Gruden did say that Kirk Cousins is our starter for this year, and that鈥檚 what we鈥檙e going to do. Robert has been cleared to play from the concussion. We got the documentation last night.鈥
Allen said that the team focused on building up its offensive and defensive lines to help revive the running game around Alfred Morris. He also said he expected a high energy club that would compete on the field.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e going to see a team that鈥檚 going to fight for 60 minutes,鈥 Allen said. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e going to see some players that are passionate about winning.鈥
