WASHINGTON 鈥� It鈥檚 a race against the clock before the snow on the roads turns to ice.
Temperatures will be well below freezing until at least Wednesday and there鈥檚 concern that refreezing will cause issues for Wednesday morning鈥檚 commute.
鈥淚t鈥檚 absolutely refreezing,鈥� says VDOT鈥檚 Joan Morris. 鈥淎nything that we didn鈥檛 get to push off the road, especially in the subdivisions, is going to refreeze.鈥�
Cars on the road Tuesday will help break up the salt, snow, and ice, but few drivers will be out during the overnight hours.
She says crews will focus on neighborhood roads during the remainder of the day Tuesday before the snow and slush turns to ice.
鈥淲e will continue to treat them with abrasives鈥t鈥檚 going to be a challenge throughout the week. If we don鈥檛 get to the snow right now before it freezes, then we鈥檝e sort of lost control a little bit.鈥�
