D.C. mayor sticks by police chief

WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday reaffirmed her support for Police Chief Cathy Lanier, who has come under fire during the summer spike in violent crime.

A day earlier, the police union announced its members had given the chief a in an informal poll.

That was taken around the time officers were deployed for a strategy not always popular with the rank-and-file who had to adjust their schedules.

“I think Chief Lanier is a great chief,” Bowser said on her way out of a

As of Tuesday evening, the District had recorded 105 homicides, 44 percent more than last year at this time.
