PHOTOS: 2023 Tony Awards

Amidst a work strike from the Writers Guild of America, the 2023 Tony Awards goes on 鈥� albeit with a lot more spontaneity and no script. We’ll see what happens.

Both seasoned stars of the stage and Hollywood part-timers made their way to the United Palace theater in New York to collect their coveted trophies. Main contenders this year include a puppet-heavy adaptation of the 鈥淟ife of Pi,鈥� satire in 鈥淭he Thanksgiving Play鈥� and pure silliness in 鈥淪hucked鈥� and 鈥淧eter Pan Goes Wrong.鈥� 聽Tom Stoppard鈥檚鈥淟eopoldstadt,鈥� which explores Jewish identity with an intergenerational story, and 鈥淔at Ham,鈥� James Ijames鈥� adaptation of Shakespeare鈥檚鈥淗amlet鈥� set at a Black family鈥檚 barbecue in the modern-day South are also up for best new original plays.
